Chartreuse Competition

Yesterday I won the Chartreuse competition against LA's finest. It was an elimination style competition starting with 16 bartenders. We went 2 at a time going head to head creating cocktails on the fly using either Green or Yellow Chartreuse. My first round cocktail was with Gin, Aperol, Orange liqueur, peaches, lime, egg whites and Green Chartreuse served up. My second round was with Gin, Sage Blueberry, Lemon, Agave and Green Chartreuse served up and garnished with a bluberry. My third round which was the favorite of the day was with these incredible concord grapes, lemon, sugar, Hendricks gin and Green Chartreuse, served in a rocks glass with a big Neve Ice cube. I marinated three grapes in an Orange liqueur and placed them on top of the big ice cube. This drink secured my spot in the finals. So there I was, an unseded bartender going up against Matty Eggleston who has won a ton of competitions and a guy who has a tremendous amount of skill. I beat him out with a red bell pepper martini, red bell pepper, mint, lemon, grapefruit, St. Germaine and Hangar One Vodka and Green Chartreuse, served up and garnished with a small mint leaf and I rubbed some red bell pepper around the rim. I took home $500 in cash and a lot of respect!

  2. Awesome drinks, Matt! I'm glad you made it to the winner's circle. Your first round concoction didn't look as pretty as your competitors, but it was delicious. Kudos!

    cheers!
